Most-Advanced Technology

LASIK Surgery in NYC – Dr. Kevin Niksarli
Laser Technologies

VISX™ STAR S4 IR

Testing AreaVISX Star S4 IR (Eye Registration technology) features one of the most advanced and the only 3D eye-tracking laser system in the world, capable of treating a wide range of prescriptions. The Active Track detects and compensates for all eye movements in all three dimensions by guiding the laser beam, and keeping it always centered over the pupil. Eye tracking capability has been shown to improve quality and level of the vision achieved following LASIK, as well as decreasing side effects. Active Track is made by VISX, the name surgeons have trusted in over 5 million procedures. VISX CustomVue remains the gold standard in the category of wavefront customized treatments, due to its truly custom nature, Iris Registration technology, and use by the majority of lasik surgeons performing true custom ablations.

INTRALASE™ BLADELESS LASIK

Testing AreaIntralase is an important advance in laser vision correction since the invention of the excimer laser. Being at the forefront of state-of-the-art laser vision correction surgery, Dr. Niksarli acquired this advanced technology over three years ago, as one of the pioneering surgeons in bladeless LASIK surgery. The IntraLase laser system allows select LASIK surgeons to offer their patients a computer controlled alternative to traditional LASIK, which is still commonly performed with a mechanical device, i.e. the microkeratome. With IntraLase, the femtosecond laser creates a thinner flap with more predictable thickness. Patients with THIN corneas or HIGH prescriptions benefit the most from this technology. Also, with this advanced technology, more New York City LASIK patients are able to avoid the longer recovery time of surface laser treatment, also known as PRK, LASEK, Epi-LASIK. The IntraLase marks a significant advancement in flap-creation technology. During your consultation, Dr. Niksarli will inform you if you would benefit from the IntraLase technology.

NIDEK™ Excimer Laser EC5000 CXIII

Testing AreaNIDEK EC 5000 CXIII excimer LASIK system is the most recently FDA approved laser that can treat nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. It is equipped with one of the most advanced eye-tracking technologies in the vision correction field. Its 200Hz infrared eye-tracking technology follows and responds to tiny eye movements within 5/1000th of a second. This in turn translates into an incredibly smooth corneal treatment surface and faster patient recovery. NIDEK is approved by the FDA for a wide range of nearsighted, astigmatic, and farsighted LASIK corrections. Its sequential treatment of astigmatism and nearsightedness ensures wide treatment zones, optimizing day and night-time quality of vision. NIDEK’s extra-quite, accurate and rapid treatment minimizes patient anxiety during the treatment, and ensures quickest recovery.

CustomVue LASIK

Testing Area The wavefront CustomVue procedure tailors a unique correction for each individual patient. The CustomVue captures a “digitized” image of the patient’s eye including the corneal contour. The measurements are captured at a computer station, i.e. Wavescan, and are transferred to the laser, which treats in a unique pattern utilizing an advanced algorithm. VISX CustomVue remains the gold standard in the category of wavefront customized treatments, due to its truly custom nature, Iris Registration technology, and use by the majority of lasik surgeons performing true custom ablations.

Dr. Niksarli will advise you whether your eyes will benefit from the wavefront CustomVue treatment.

Wavelight Allegretto

Testing AreaAllegretto Wave treats the cornea in a wavefront optimized or wavefront driven fashion. It differs from VISX's CustomVue in that the treatments can be wavefront optimized or wavefront guided. The surgeon decides which one of these treatments is better suited for a given patient. Like all the other lasers featured here, it has a built-in infrared 200Hz eye-tracker to stabilize the eye during surgery. This technology is available through an affiliate lasik surgeon.

Bausch&Lomb TECHNOLAS 217

Testing Area

The Bausch and Lomb Technology is an advanced flying spot laser which can treat nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Similar to NIDEK EC5000, with its adjustable zones, it covers a wide treatment area to optimize quality of vision following LASIK. It features an infrared eye-tracker for increased safety and predictability. Custom LASIK treatments are possible utilizing its advanced Zyoptix algorithm. It is available thru Dr. Niksarli’s affiliation with Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital.

ORBSCAN 2

Testing AreaThe Orbscan’s high-tech computer can actually read and interpret the contours of your eyes and produce an incredibly detailed topographical map of your eyes. This full-color map tells the surgeon all he or she needs to know about your eyes’ precise characteristics such as elevation, inclination, curvature, and prescription.

MARCO TRS SYSTEM

Testing AreaTRS system from MARCO combines the latest generation of electronic refraction technology. Replacing the standard manual refractor, which is still used so commonly in most doctors offices, it takes the guessing game out of the equation. Commonly, patients are nervous about giving the wrong answer to the question the doctor asks multiple times: “which is better? 1 or 2?” That’s tough enough for most people even for a new pair of eyeglasses, let alone before a permanent procedure. That’s why we have invested in most up-to-date automatic refraction systems which are not found at most other laser centers. They communicate with state-of-the-art auto-refractors, which read off the prescriptions from your eyes. On the day of the surgery, to confirm the readings, you will be shown what the computer has generated for your prescription numbers, including nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. After refining those numbers further, they are fed into the computer of the laser system. The laser will know exactly how the treatment will be performed. All these, thanks to the most advanced refraction system available today.
