Laser Eye Surgery Procedures – Dr. Niksarli
Laser eye surgery is among the most popular elective surgical procedures performed today and has helped many New York City vision correction patients achieve better vision, often reducing or completely eliminating their dependence on corrective eyewear such as eyeglasses and contact lenses.
LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) is an advanced vision correction procedure that involves the use of surgical lasers to reshape the front surface of the eye (cornea), correcting a range of refractive errors, including nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. To learn more about these visual impairments, please refer to the refractive errors section below.
Types of Laser Vision Correction Offered by Dr. Niksarli
Recognized as a leading LASIK surgeon, Dr. Niksarli offers the following laser vision correction procedures:
- LASIK
- Custom LASIK
- No-Blade LASIK – IntraLASIK
- Custom IntraLASIK
Alternative Treatment Options
- LASEK
- Conductive Keratoplasty (CK)
LASIK
LASIK eye surgery, the most frequently performed vision correction procedure, involves two major steps: the creation of a corneal flap and reshaping of the cornea with a laser. To perform LASIK for his New York City / Long Island laser eye surgery patients, Dr. Niksarli first creates the corneal flap, a thin piece of tissue that is lifted back to expose the underlying cornea. Once this is accomplished, he uses an excimer laser to precisely reshape to cornea, altering the angle at which light enters the eye and thereby improving its ability to focus images onto the retina. Following LASIK, the corneal flap is returned to its original position to aid in the healing process. All laser vision correction procedures at Manhattan LASIK Center are performed under anesthetic eye drops for maximum patient comfort. The treatment time is less than 15 minutes for each eye.
Custom LASIK
Custom LASIK is an enhancement of the traditional LASIK procedure that offers customized vision correction treatment that is 25 times more precise. Using the latest VISX Wavescan/Star S4 laser or Bausch & Lomb’s Zyoptix wavefront technology, Dr. Niksarli obtains a unique map of each patient’s refractive errors, including subtle optical errors known as higher-order aberrations. The data obtained with wavefront is then used to calibrate the excimer laser for a CustomVue procedure, resulting in the best vision outcome possible for each NYC LASIK patient.
No-Blade LASIK – IntraLASIK
The terms “no-blade LASIK,” “bladeless LASIK” and “IntraLASIK” refer to the method used to create the corneal flap. Traditionally, a surgical blade called microkeratome was used for the creation of the corneal flap. However, this tool has been replaced with a surgical laser known as a femtosecond laser, which allows Dr. Niksarli to offer his LASIK patients a blade-free vision correction surgery. During bladeless LASIK, a computer aligns laser pulses in a plane where the LASIK flap is created with the utmost precision and comfort, thereby eliminating the possibility of blade-related complications and minimizing patient anxiety. IntraLASIK is associated with a higher level of safety and accuracy during LASIK eye surgery.
Custom IntraLASIK
The Custom IntraLASIK procedure combines leading-edge wavefront technology with the bladeless LASIK method for maximum safety and accuracy. Manhattan / Queens LASIK patients who undergo Custom IntraLASIK under the care of Dr. Niksarli and his team are able to achieve remarkable vision correction results and a smooth, speedy recovery.
After LASIK
Following LASIK eye surgery, patients are asked to apply medicated eye drops for several days. The life-changing vision correction results of LASIK become evident the very next day. When performed under the care of Dr. Niksarli, most LASIK patients are able to achieve 20/20 vision or better.
LASEK
LASEK is a variation of the LASIK procedure that is often performed on patients whose cornea is too thin for corneal flap creation. During LASEK eye surgery, a thin layer of tissue is completely removed from the surface of the eye and replaced following corneal re-shaping. LASEK leads to the same vision correction outcomes as LASIK; however, the recovery time may be prolonged by 3 to 7 days with some discomfort during the first 48 hours.
Conductive Keratoplasty (CK)
CK is a non-invasive vision correction procedure that uses heat energy generated by radio frequencies to reshape the cornea. It is an excellent treatment option for patients whose vision is impaired by low-lever hyperopia (farsightedness) and presbyopia, an age-related condition associated with the eye’s loss of focusing power. CK is performed under anesthetic eye drops, and treatment time is less than 15 minutes. CK is minimally invasive and extremely precise. Dr. Niksarli’s CK patients experience improved vision almost immediately following treatment with continued improvements over the next few weeks.
Please note that a thorough preoperative evaluation is necessary to determine if you are a good
candidate for any of the vision correction procedures covered here.
Refractive Errors
Laser vision correction procedures can correct the following refractive errors:

Nearsightedness (myopia) is a refractive defect in which the cornea’s steep shape obstructs an individual’s ability to see distant objects. Patients who suffer from nearsightedness generally have good close up vision.

Farsightedness (hyperopia) is a refractive defect in which the cornea’s flat shape obstructs an individual’s ability to see up close. Patients who suffer from farsightedness generally have good distance vision.

Astigmatism is a refractive defect in which the cornea’s irregular “football-like” shape causes out-of-focus vision. Most individuals who have astigmatism are also either nearsighted or farsighted.
